Board Members

  • France Chrétien Desmarais is the Chair of the Board of Directors. She is the past Chair of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation Board and the current Vice President of the ONE DROP Foundation. She has been involved with numerous charitable organizations and is a member of several boards.
  • James Balsillie is the Co-CEO of Research In Motion (RIM), maker of the world-renowned BlackBerry wireless solution. In 2002, he founded The Centre for International Governance Innovation and is Chair of the recently formed Canadian International Council. He holds numerous honorary doctorate degrees and in 2008 founded the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
  • The Honourable Gary Filmon is the former Premier of Manitoba and has served as Minister of Federal-Provincial Relations and Chairman of the Economic Development Board of Cabinet. He has extensive experience in the educational and public sectors and currently serves on many corporate and public boards.
  • Daniel Lamarre is President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil. Before joining the enterprise in 2001, he served as President and CEO of TVA Group, Quebec's largest private television broadcaster, and also held senior positions with National Public Relations. He has served on several boards including McDonald's Restaurants of Canada, The Canadian Association of Broadcasters while helping administer the Montreal Heart Institute Research Fund.
  • Michael Sabia is the President and CEO of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. Formerly the President and CEO of BCE Inc. and CEO of Bell Canada from 2002 to 2008. Prior to joining BCE, he held many senior positions in the Canadian Federal Public Service and was Executive Vice-President and CFO of the Canadian National Railway Company. He is the Chair of a joint initiative between the Government of Canada and the Gates Foundation on a vaccine for HIV.
  • Marcel Aubut is a partner with Heenan Blaikie LLP and is one of Canada's experts in the area of sports law. In 1979, he led the merger of the World Hockey Association and the National Hockey League and was the architect behind the establishment of the Québec Nordiques. He continues to be involved with many companies and boards, as well as philanthropic activities. Marcel has been named president-elect of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
  • Michael A. Chambers is currently serving his second term as President of the Canadian Olympic Committee while also serving as a vice-president of the Pan America Sports Organization (PASO). He was Vice-Chair of the Vancouver 2010 Bid Committee and is now a member of the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. In addition, he is currently engaged in private practice with Maclaren Corlett LLP in Ottawa.
  • James S. Kinnear is the President and CEO of Pengrowth Management Ltd. and serves on many boards and committees, including the Banff Centre Board of Governors and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Prior to founding Pengrowth in 1982, he was a partner in a Montreal based securities firm.
  • Richard Renaud has worked actively in private equity with a discipline for workout situations in Canada and the United States more than 30 years. He is the Chair of the Board of his family's company, TNG Corporation, and serves on 12 corporate boards. He was honoured by Pope John Paul II with the Cross Pro-Ecclesia et Pontifice for distinguished service to the Church of Montreal and was given the Unsung Heroes of Compassion Award from the Dalai Lama.
  • Jean Senft is currently an International Skating Union World and Olympic Judge and Referee. She has spent more than 30 years working with athletes, presenting seminars and producing figure skating television features. She has worked in sales, event planning and real estate security investment and serves on many boards.

The Foundation Staff Members

  • David Armour, CEO
    David brings great depth of experience in foundations and in fundraising to this new role. His previous work includes 10 years as National President of United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada, CEO of the Canadian Medical Foundation, Senior Advisor to the Université Laval Foundation and Regional Director of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
  • Janet MacPhail, Special Projects
    Janet is a marketing and communications professional with extensive experience working with both corporate and not-for-profit organizations. She has worked in and around the Olympic Movements since 1986 when she joined the Calgary Olympic Organizing Committee. She has consulted on numerous Olympic projects for the Canadian Olympic Committee. Janet is Chair of the Arthritis Society in Ontario and recently helped launch a grassroots children's charity in Regent Park in Toronto.
  • Melody Galloro, Marketing and Communications Coordinator
    Melody has joined the Foundation team to support the launch of e-campaigns and The Foundation's online community. She has a graphics, marketing, and creative background and has worked in these fields for several years.
  • Gwendolyn Lewis, Gift Processing Administrator
    Gwen joined the Canadian Olympic Foundation in July 2007 with more than 12 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector. Her responsibilities include processing all Foundation gifts, issuing tax receipts and acknowledgement letters, and managing the fulfillment program.
  • Kristin Graholm, Marketing and Communications Coordinator
    Kristin has extensive administrative experience in both the public and private sectors and has worked at a number of not-for-profit organizations. She recently completed her MBA at the Schulich School of Business at York University.
